The Digital Assets Gains and Losses report provides a detailed breakdown of realized gains and losses from digital asset transactions recorded in TradeLog. It can be used for profit and loss analysis and to review the transactions included in your Form 8949 for Digital Assets.
The report contains the same transaction data as Form 8949 for Digital Assets but presents the information in a different format, making it easier to review individual transactions and analyze gains and losses.
Please note: All tax year reporting will show a DRAFT watermark until you have completed the End Tax Year process on the TradeLog file. Final tax reporting should always be generated after the End Tax Year process has been completed.
⚠️ Important: The Digital Assets Gains and Losses report should NOT be used in place of IRS Form 8949 for Digital Assets, as it does not categorize transactions as required for Form 8949. Use the Form 8949 for Digital Assets report when preparing your tax filing.
Before Running the Report
The Digital Assets Gains and Losses report includes only transactions entered in TradeLog that are identified as digital assets using the Type/Multiplier designation DCY-__. Transactions without this designation will not be included.
Wash Sale Adjustments: TradeLog does not currently apply wash sale adjustments to digital asset transactions identified using the DCY-__ Type/Multiplier designation. Under current IRS rules, wash sale provisions generally do not apply to digital assets unless they are classified as stocks or securities for federal income tax purposes.
As with most TradeLog reports, the Digital Assets Gains and Losses report can be modified by filtering the data in the Grid before running the report.
For example, if you use the Find, Ticker command to isolate transactions for a particular digital asset, the report will include only transactions matching that filter.
- If you are generating the report to review tax filing information, click the All Trades button before running the report. This removes any data filtering and ensures that all applicable digital asset transactions for the selected tax year are included.
- By default, the report includes realized gains and losses for the current tax year. You can change the Start and End dates to report a different period.
Report Options
The default report options are designed to generate a Gains and Losses report containing the same transaction data used for Form 8949 for Digital Assets.
